In the late 1960’s, Joseph Phelps was running one of the largest construction companies in the United States, Hensel Phelps Construction Company, when he won the bid to build Souverain Winery (now Rutherford Hill) located a few miles outside of St. Helena. It was at this time that he won the bid to build Souverain winery (now Rutherford Hill) located a few miles outside of St. Helena. Enamored with the beauty of Napa Valley and contemplating a career change, in 1973 he purchased 600 acres in Spring Valley, and began planting his vineyards. In 1974, the winery was completed, the first grapes were crushed, and the first vintage of Insignia was produced.

Four decades later, Insignia is recognized as one of the world’s greatest wines. Today, the winery is run by Joe's son, Bill Phelps, whose core focus is keeping the winery family-owned and -operated while continuing to produce wines of exceptional quality. Representing the third generation and the wines on this evening is Joe’s son, Will. Please join us for an exclusive presentation of their wines, paired with a menu crafted by chef Matt Sieger.
